Multibeam Bathymetry

Our multibeam sonar equipment pool includes six R2Sonic variable frequency systems (400kHz-200kHz) which are coupled with high quality RTK GNSS Inertial Navigation Systems.

These integrated survey systems exceed Special Order standards in the coastal environment and easily achieve Order 1a in deeper water areas, with each system configured for Backscatter Imagery and Raw Water Column outputs.

Our standard practice is to utilise Applanix POS MV & CODA F185+R Inertial GNSS Navigation for vessel positioning. The precise positioning that these systems achieve allows the vertical component to be used for the measurement and application of tide in the survey thereby negating what is historically the largest component of error in an offshore survey.

Further offshore we can post process (PPK) GPS measurements to achieve the same outcome, removing the requirement for tide gauge deployment and calculation of tide at the position of the vessel using co-tidal modelling, although we do retain tide gauges for verification against these practices where desired by clients.

During wide-area hydrographic surveys, we routinely utilise multibeam and magnetometer systems concurrently, in order to achieve the detection of any man-made objects, including UXO, on the seabed. The detection of wrecks or obstructions can then lead to further investigation using more detailed multibeam investigation, with water column imaging, side-scan sonar or bar sweeping where required.

Our deliverables are enhanced by offering the client bespoke outputs including 3D Point Cloud and Surface Model Visualisation, coloured graphics and TIF files, AutoCAD DXF and DWG files, ACSII XYZ and GSF files, as well as hard copy colour plots etc.
