Aspect
Land & Hydrographic Surveys have the equipment and expertise to
undertake a wide range of marine support services, including pre
& post dredge surveys, turbidity monitoring, barge & rig positioning
and associated works whether in open waters or congested harbours,
waterways or approach channels.
Dredging
Surveys & Supervision
We
have significant experience in dredging supervision works, including
pre and post dredge surveys and payment volume calculations. We
regularly conduct interim surveys for numerous dredging contractors
throughout the UK - although we act as an independent survey company,
which is a major benefit to the client or port authority.
We
also act as the client's representative on contractor's surveys
to witness and verify survey results, as required in many contracts.
Projects
include both Capital Dredging works (quay construction, etc) utilising
Backhoe or Bucket dredgers and Maintenance Dredging (removal of
silt / sediment over a previously established level) usually carried
out by Grab Hopper dredgers and workboats operating Plough Levelling
techniques.
Our
equipment is wholly adaptable and whilst we have our own custom-built
survey vessels, we can also use local site workboats where of
benefit to the client. Survey output is available in a variety
of industry-accepted outputs including AutoCAD, XYZ, GENIO and
hard copy plots up to A0 size.
All
interim data sets can be uploaded into the dredger's Dig Control
Systems (DCS) for improved on-site operational efficiency.
Our
experience ranges from surveys of small harbours and berths to
whole harbours and approach channels which are well within our
capability.
Marine
Positioning Systems
Global
Positioning Systems (GPS) have changed the way the world operates
and this is especially true for marine operations; including construction
and dredging projects. GPS provides the fastest and most accurate
method to navigate and determine the location of a workboat or
dredger, thus enabling increased levels of safety and efficiency.
Aspect
Land and Hydrographic Surveys offer RTK GPS positioning systems
to the marine construction and engineering industry, including
installation, on-site training, hardware and full back-up services.
Accurate
positioning is important for many elements of marine engineering,
whether in open waters or congested harbours, waterways or approach
channels.
Our
positioning system provides the contractor with the position and
heading of the workboat or dredger relative to the actual work
area, with the data displayed on a monitor in the operator's cabin.
Positioning
is displayed with an accuracy of sub-metre or a few millimeters,
depending on the preferred positioning system (RTK or DGPS). The
use of these systems allows the contractor to be continually informed
and gives a clear overview of the works progress.
Applications
include dredging works in harbours, ports & navigation channels,
real-time commercial marine positioning for oilrig cold stack
projects, wharf & sheet piling operations, coastal erosion
control works, diver support services, pipeline & outfall
deployment projects, marine engineering contracts and environmental
surveys.
Environmental
Monitoring
Maintaining
adequate water depths for navigational purposes is an important
operation although the rate of sedimentation has accelerated as
a consequence of many environmental changes, in particular dredging
and marine construstion works, coastal erosion and changing tidal
patterns.
We
offer a range of monitoring and data capture services for hydraulic
modelling and sedimentation issues within the marine environment.
Our
capabilities include current & turbidity monitoring, grab sampling,
tidal prediction, water column analysis and dye / drogue tracking
and in addition offer advice and guidance on environmental impact
assessments.
