PRINCIPAL SURVEYOR / COMPLIANCE MANAGER

Due to the continued expansion of our portfolio of survey services we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join our team in a managerial role, to support operational and QA processes.

Reporting to the Senior Management Team, the Principal Surveyor / Compliance Manager will contribute to the tendering process, facilitate project management and provide guidance and technical leadership to survey teams and is expected to make a significant contribution to business development and to the ongoing success of the company. They will be responsible for maintaining the ISO9001:2015 standards that are already established and will contribute to improving processes, where possible.

The role will be office based with no anticipated requirement for site working, although this may be requested in exceptional circumstances.

The role requires an individual who is efficient, analytical and able work to tight deadlines. The capacity to work autonomously as well as in a team is important, as is the ability to effectively co-ordinate input from several stakeholders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate complete tender process, managing response times to ensure that specified submission timescales are achieved.
  • Access portal notifications / written notifications and distribute PQQ & tender information appropriately.
  • Read and dissect all PQQs & tenders entering relevant information on PQQ system.
  • Allocate questions to members of staff with appropriate expertise, breaking them down into a suitable format to ensure relevant, focused responses.
  • Produce PQQ, tender support documents, tender submission documents and quote presentations.
  • Review proposals, supporting materials and client-facing documents for accuracy (grammar, style, continuity and content).
  • Update and maintain tender information library.
  • Obtain and collate post tender feedback and prepare for analysis.
  • Monitor instructed projects to ensure delivery within agreed parameters, monitoring resource expenditure and ensuring profitability targets are met.
  • Overseeing of QC processes and final drawings / reports of work completed by the team, dealing with non-conformance issues and reporting findings to the Management Team.
  • Preparation of quality assurance activity reports / quality input for project reporting and management reviews as requested.
  • Assume and perform other duties and responsibilities not specifically outline above, but which are logically and properly inherent to the position.

Essential Criteria:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience across a broad range of survey disciplines and be able to demonstrate involvement in the preparation of tender bids and detailed PQQs, as well as experience of QA monitoring.

Extensive knowledge of the survey industry and experience of preparing method statements & project implementation plans within the construction industry is essential.

Strong presentation, layout and editing skills, using good written English, and the ability to retain information on equipment and methodologies, case studies, legal requirements and corporate information will ensure the writing of high quality proposals.

  • Demonstrable experience in line with the requirements of the role.
  • Degree qualification in relevant specialism.
  • Professional Membership of a Chartered Institution.
  • Experience in planning projects involving multiple disciplines to meet deadlines / targets.
  • Experience in identifying business opportunities and marketing same to clients.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to successfully deliver results within a competitive commercial environment.
  • Full UK Driving License.

SENIOR UTILITY SURVEYOR / UTILITY SURVEY MANAGER

Due to our expanding portfolio of survey services we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Utility Surveyor / Utility Survey Manager to join our team.

The appointed surveyor will have an understanding of and experience in accepted utility mapping practices and be highly proficient in the use of Radiodetection tracing equipment and GPR systems. Experience in the use of systems such as MALA & VIVAX would be an advantage.

They will have a strong health and safety ethos with experience of operating safe working systems and will be ambitious, enthusiastic and flexibility in their approach to the role. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently to tight deadlines will also be required.

The successful applicant will be working as part of an experienced survey team, on a variety of sites throughout the UK and occasionally further field. The role will be focused on delivering underground utility surveys and will often integrate with all areas topographical, a strong understanding of which would be preferable.

The role will involve;

  • Planning and managing work to ensure all client and in-house specifications and quality aspects are met.
  • Completing onsite detecting and mapping activities for underground utility surveys, including Electromagnetic & Ground Penetrating Radar detection, drainage and sewerage mapping.
  • Undertaking data processing, data interpretation and presentation of survey results.
  • Responsibility for day to day delivery of project work. (Site and Office based)
  • Responsibility for the quality of project work and compliance with quality systems.
  • Completion of onsite topographic survey activities.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have at least 2 years’ experience in Utility Surveying within a range of sectors, using electromagnetic (Radiodetection preferred) and radar techniques (Mala, Leica etc preferred) and be familiar with PAS128 survey methodology.

The successful candidate will also have:

  • Knowledge of robotic total stations (preferably Trimble) & GPS systems.
  • A good understanding of post processing using LSS (or similar) and advanced experience in AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on a wide range of Utility Mapping projects.
  • Demonstrable experience managing / supervising Junior Utility Mapping surveyors.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of common industry practices and standards, i.e. PAS128, & TSA etc.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and to make technical and supervisory decisions for projects assigned within specified limits of authority.
  • Experience with operating and interpreting digital outputs from various Utility Mapping instruments
  • Experience with Land Survey modeling software.
  • Land Surveying experience
  • A full UK driving license is essential.

UAV & AERIAL SURVEYOR

The appointed surveyor will have an understanding of and experience in accepted and emerging UAV survey practices and be highly proficient in the use of fixed wing and multi-rotor drones.

They will have a strong health and safety ethos with experience of operating safe working systems and will be ambitious, enthusiastic and flexibility in their approach to the role. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently to tight deadlines will also be required.

The successful applicant will be working as part of an experienced survey team, on a variety of sites throughout the UK and occasionally further field.

The role will involve:

  • Responsibility for managing and developing UAV services within the company.
  • Leading on-site data capture activities using UAV and aerial platforms, including still (and video) photography (and video), photogrammetry, thermal imaging and LiDAR.
  • Management of complex survey tasks and co-ordination of personnel for projects as required.
  • Planning of flight campaigns, including site visits, meteorology assessments, system preparation and airspace management and the production of relevant documentation to support project progression.
  • System management and aircraft navigation from a ground control station.
  • Working with external stakeholders including payload operators, air traffic control authorities and customers.
  • General flight operations and support tasks.
  • The provision of in-depth technical support and guidance to both the in-house team and to clients.
  • CAA liaison as required, including the co-ordination and maintenance of annual operating licenses and the implementation of statutory instructions to maintain compliance.
  • Participation in research and development activities which may involve research into hardware and software, processes and practices, both current and emerging.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrable experience in line with the requirements of the role.
  • CAA Certification as Commercial UAV Operator.
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment, to tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrable ability to make and implement complex risk-based decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to successfully deliver results within a competitive commercial environment.
  • Full UK Driving License.
